Our much awaited ‘Chatbots Survey -2017’ report is finally out and it’s receiving loads of love from all over the industry thanks to all the awesome contributors.

Upon few requests, I am jotting down 5 key learnings from the survey which you can’t afford to miss. Though, the report itself is quite easy to understand, consider this as a quick sneak peak before you go through the actual report.

So here we go :

1.Chatbots are less likely to replace human counterparts completely

Yes, that’s right. Though Chatbots are here to rule the conversational messaging arena, according to 61% of respondents, it’s less likely that they will replace their human counterparts completely but we can say that they will complement humans. Majority of Chatbots still have difficult time answering complex user queries because the industry lacks competent AI, NLP and conversational language experts.

2. The most popular Chatbot building platforms

5 bot building platforms emerged as most popular from the survey including IBM Watson, wit.ai, Microsoft Bot, Chatfuel and Pandorabots. Their reliability, simplicity and accuracy contributes to their popularity. IBM Watson is the oldest of all while majority of them are launched not long ago.

3. Why Chatbots wave started to take over the world in 2015–16 ?

The interesting thing is, majority of the businesses heard about Chatbots for the first time between 2015 and 2016. 54% of the developers worked on Chatbots for the first time in 2016. Major catalyst could have been is Facebook’s push for ‘Messenger Chatbots’.

4. E-Commerce seems to be most poised to benefit from Chatbots

Well, though all businesses can reap the benefits of Chatbots in one way or another, E-commerce, Insurance, Healthcare, Retail and Hospitality are top 5 industries which are projected to be benefited the most from Chatbots. Businesses which often need to interact with their customers through social media and web platforms, are in great need for Chatbots.

5. Market catalysts and market restraints

Rise of AI, Various bot building platforms and the availability of NLP resources are major contributors for the Chatbots growth but at the same time, lack of awareness, privacy issues and large dependency on humans for customer interaction are anticipated to restrain the growth of Chatbots.
